wicker basket and christmas preparations

Dear girls,
It's been awhile since I blogged, but oh, how many things are going on. I have started to prepare the christmas gifts, because I will not, can not, run a few days before Christmas like a mad women to quickly buy a gift.... I need time, inspiration and more time. So, I am proud to say that I am halfway, almost there.
I have painted recently an old wine box, which looked too useful to toss out, so instead, I painted it with a grey layer and sometimes put cutlery or lemons in it. I think it looks lovely.

Now, for the rest of my household, things are getting messy and I am finding ribbons, fabric, laundry everywhere, so I am seriously tidying here, enough to do!!
Do you like the wicker basket I found? I haven't made up my mind to use it indoors or outdoors....mmmm.....

wish you all a great weekend!!

A curl goes a long way

I was browsing through my 1940's hairstyles book, and I was inspired by the elegant and feminine looks. I just love to wear my hair straight, it takes some blowdrying, but okay. My own hair is wavy and looks a little more wild....
Sometimes I use hot rollers to create an elegant look, and I love that too, you feel like another woman with your hair done well put. Unfortunately, I don't always have the time, and we don't see much of these styles today anymore, even though it looks so nice.

Let Veronica Lake and Rita Hayworth inspire you...

embroidery and scent

Now, that I have taken up embroidery, I am busy with making monograms and small decorations on linen, on the sofa, at the table, I do it while my son plays and when sometimes even before bed! I love being busy creatively and it really does make me happy.

The beautiful embroidered napkin is from Blanc d'Ivoire and so is the little scented lavender bag, my favourite.
Adding a bit of scented laundry water, with lavender scent of your bedsheets, is a great way to keep the cupboard smelling sweet and nice, and your sheets stay longer fresh.
Wish you all a wonderful weekend!

It's all in details

This weekend I am happy to stay in, since rain has been our biggest companion so far. I have enjoyed putting some details and touches here and there to remind myself that there small changes really do make a difference.
I have bought a dish cloth at Blanc d'Ivoire, mind you I really don't buy all my dish cloths from there! but these 2 I couldn't resist, since there were beautifully decorated with monograms, my one weakness. (okay, to be honest, one of many weaknesses....)
I was thinking to make a pillow cover from the dish cloth or a nice little bag, what do you think??

I also found some napkins at Ikea, cheaper but also charming for the everyday dining table. White linen, adorned with a blue detail.
Hope you girls are enjoying your weekends, inside, outside, any place which brings some happiness and relaxation.

This has been a busy week. Time seems to pass fast these days and adminstration and laundry is piling up quickly... I want to thank you all, for those nice words, a friendly comment, all enjoyable to read.
Yesterday I went to see 'Julie and Julia' and I highly recommend it, such a warm movie and good actors. But be warned, they make you want to cook...
I have also added some lovely autunm images from 'County Homes' of this month. Don't you just love the colours and the atmosphere?

please, take a seat...

Last month I found a gorgeous chair for a very decent price. Since we don't need more furniture, I wasn't sure if one more chair would fit in the livingroom. After thinking at night (yes, at nigth when other people sleep I think of a chair....!) and talking to my husband how lovely the chair is and how good it would look, he got it for me, knowing that I was blinded by the chair.

Now, I keep it in a corner near the library, good for reading and sittng , or just looking at it.

Hope you have a nice week,
Solange

A new book has arrived in my mailbox...

A new book arrived in my mailbox, I am very exited about this book, because I love history and the 18th and 19th century discoveries. It's about how the new inventions like the hot air balloon, lamps and many more things influenced the lifes of people, the fear people had and their curiosity and exitement.
Can't wait to start it, but at the moment I am still reading ' I capture the castle' which is really good as well, so this one will have to wait a little more.

Autumn, you can start now, since I have my books and cozy blankets ready!!
